The simulation models

The DGHPSim suite consists of 4 simulation models, 3 of which can be run independently if required, or together to simulate the overall performance of a hospital. In the models, individual patients follow treatment pathways and interact with scarce resources such as staff, equipment and beds.

Used individually, the models can track the detailed performance of part of a hospital as patients pass through. Linked, the models allow a user to investigate the interaction between performance, targets and changing demand for hospital care.

In this way, the DGHPSim suite can be used to examine different service configurations. and will show their effect on waiting time performance.

DGHPSim suite

The four models have all been developed in Micro Saint Sharp , a simulation package well-suited to hospitals and other service systems. The four models are:
  1. A&E Model
  2. Inpatient Model
  3. Outpatient Model
  4. Inpatient Waiting List Model
The Inpatient waiting list model manages waiting lists for elective admissions, linking the outpatient and inpatient models. Hence it should not be run alone.

Data Requirements
The DGHPSim project also provides software for analysing hospital data and transforming it into a form suitable for the models. This is the Hospital Activity Data Analyser (HADA)
